Everything starts with getting the right people on your bus. In today's episode, Clint joins Dr. Parker to talk all about hiring and how to avoid the common pitfalls.

If you have the right people on your bus, the problem of how to motivate people largely goes away. The right people don’t need to be tightly managed or fired up: they will be self-motivated by the inner drive to produce the best results and to be part of creating something great… And if you have the wrong people, it doesn’t matter whether you discover the right direction; you still won’t have a great company. Benefits of a great hiring process

  • A great team naturally attracts other superstars.
  • Hiring the right people makes it easy to change directions
  • Talented people want to work around other talented people
  • The loss of productivity and turnover is the highest preventable costs in business

It is better to take your time upfront and be slow, methodical, and careful in your hiring process, than waste time filling a position, retraining, and dealing with legal issues. 

When looking for a new hire look for an Ideal Team Playe- someone who is humble, hungry, and people smart

What can you do to improve the hiring process? 

  1. Make hiring & onboarding your top priority 
  2. Hire smart and hire slow, respond don’t react to the urgent
  3. Look for people that are humble, hungry, and people-smart 
  4. Off-board people properly, don’t wait until it’s too late. 
  5. Use behavior interview questions, ask questions about what they have done not what they will do
  6. Don’t delegate the hiring process 
  7. Read chapter one of Good to Great by Jim Collins
