Grit: Why It's Important and How To Get More
Show Notes

Today Clint and Dr. Parker talk about grit, why it’s important, and how to get more of it.

The smartest people don’t always win. Instead, the persistent people who have guts, determination, and perseverance stick it out to the end. Grit will help in your marriage, parenting, finances, physical fitness, long-term goals, and just about any other area of life. If you’re looking for quick fixes, there’s a lot of other advice out there to tickle your ears, but if you want compounding change, you’ve got to get some grit.

Without grit you:

  • Give up easily
  • Avoid things that are hard, meaningful, and rewarding
  • Stunt your growth
  • Never finish what you start
  • Take on too many things at once
  • Only invest in shallow relationships
  • Get easily offended
  • Make finding good friends more difficult
  • Devalue yourself
  • Limit your impact on the world

Dr. Angela Duckworth defines grit as passion and perseverance for long-term, meaningful goals

5 ways to get more grit:

  1. Pursuing goals with a higher purpose
  2. Change your internal story, make hard things good
  3. Stay growth-oriented and never stop growing
  4. Surround yourself with other gritty people
  5. Make it a priority to teach grit in your children
